Maths W8

 Ya-hoo!

For maths this week, our goal was "Express remainders as fractions, decimals or whole numbers." The question was "Due to COVID-19 and social distancing rules, Air New Zealand are unable to fill their flights to capacity. A standard airbus seats 234 people, however less than half of these seats are occupied and there are only 65 people on the flight.  For safety reasons, masks are provided on the flight.
If there are enough masks for 234 people, how many masks could each person have if they divided them all out? What is the remainder?" This is how we solved it.

234 ÷ 65
65 x 3 = 195
39 remainders
3 masks per passenger

Maths W7

Ya-hoo! ;)

For maths this week, I will be showing you how you can be a good maths buddy.

How can I be a good maths mate?

Working together
Sharing ideas
Helping each other out
Talking to each other
Not getting distracted
Not going to talk to your friends

That is how you can be a good maths mate.

Heyyo!

For maths last week. Our goal was "Solve problems with fractions, decimals, proportions and ratios using a broad range of strategies (Addition & Subtraction PV Decimal) & (Express remainders as fractions, decimal or whole numbers) Knowledge: (Convert decimals, fractions & %s)." I did the maths wrong so I'm not going to share it :). The question was "Mereana buys the latest i-phone 12 for $1420.00 after getting a 15% discount. How much did the i-phone 12 cost before the discount?"

W r i t i n g W 5

Heyyo!

For writing this week, we're still doing the same thing. We are still working on our speeches and I've wrote quite a lot. My speech is currently 3 minutes long. I am NOT excited to show my speech. I don't like presenting to large crowds. Here is a line from my speech.

"Did you know that the environment can affect one's mental health? It’s because of all those pollution and sometimes even the loud noises. It’s because sometimes it can trigger mental disorders and it can also cause stress. A mental disorder is not permanent but it does take quite a long time to cure, it takes weeks to months to years."

Heyyo!

For Reading this week, we read a book about robots. Then we got into groups and we made a video about whether robots are good or bad. Me and my friends (Cleo and Sam) made a slide with all of us in an argument instead of a video because we ran out of time.

Heyyo!

For Maths this week, my problem solving question was "There are currently three big tree stumps sitting in the way of where the bike track will go. The stump removal company have quoted $253 to get the three tree stumps removed. They are currently running a special of 20% off stump removal for the next week. If we book in during this time… What would the dollar amount of our discount be? What would the total price now be to get the 3 stumps removed? Now that we have calculated the price of removal, the company have made contact and said we can have a further 17% off if we pay in advance, what will the cost now be, if we take up their offer?" I did this problem solving with my friend, Arihia.

This is how I did it.

$253 - $50.60

$253 - $50 = $203 - 0.60 = $202.4
$202.4 - 7% = $162.4

17% off = $167.40

Heyyo!

This blog will be about maths. For maths this week, we worked on problem solving. The question I chose was:

"There are 360 students at St Francis of Assisi School, and 95 of these students are Year 7/8, Kaupeka. Do the Kaupeka students make up more or less than ⅕ of the students at St Francis?

This is how I worked it out.

360 - 95                     360 ÷ 2
360 - 60 = 300           180 ÷ 2 = 90
95 - 60 = 35               360 ÷ 4 = 90
300 - 35 = 265

Heyyoo!

This blog will be about my Reading workshop this week. For our Reading workshop, we learned about Fantastics. For our Reading task, we had to pick a book to read and put Fantastics next to a sentence. For example, "she touched the apple" I would put the Fantastic, touch, next to it. Fantastics are Feelings, Taste, Hearing and more. - Link to Slide -

Heyyo guys!

For maths this week, my goal was "Identify and sort 2D and 3D shapes into classes. Define the properties of the shapes and justify the decisions made." I filled out a google drawing, put the shapes in the correct boxes and tried to find other how many sides, faces and figured out whether its a platonic solid and other stuff like that.
