Hey Aliens! I stayed at YMCA Wainui Camp for week 3!
Whew! I cannot take this any longer! It was TIRING tramping to camp! We had to walk uphill and then downhill and then uphill and then down again! My legs were broken afterwards! We stopped for a few times but it was still painful walking again. The cabins were pretty nice but I didn't get a bunk bed so I didn't feel cozy. Also, for this blog, I will be sharing my reflection! We went to camp from 29th of October to 1st of November.
What I found Challenging -
I found High Ropes, Coasteering and Orienteering challenging.
High Ropes: Some of them, I had to face my fears, especially heights, I was kinda scared to go up high because I was scared to fall and hit my head even though I had protection on. I didn't trust the people holding onto the rope because I was scared they weren't ready!
Coasteering: It was hard to move from rock to rock since it was a bit slippery, but the barnacles were helpful unless it scratched you, ouch! Coasteering was still fun though.
Orienteering: It was kind of hard to try and find the signs and some of them were hidden really well. Me and Tremaine, my buddy I was working with, were a bit scared. Well, I think I was the most scared. I was mostly scared of Stinging Neetle and other harmful plants.
What I enjoyed the most -
I found High Ropes, Coasteering, Kayaking and Raft Build pretty fun.
Some of them I said I found challenging but that's what the fun it about! Challenges you have to face!
I really liked jumping off the rocks and into the deep water at Coasteering, but I was safe, I had life jackets on and a helmet! High Ropes was really high (duh) but it was fun swinging down and facing challenges, again, I had a helmet on. Kayaking was fun, we did Kayak Doubles and I did it with Joanna! It was fun doing it with her. We got to do challenges for Kayak and one of them was that we had to jump in the water and swim around the boats and I decided to do that but I realised I was really bad at swimming! Raft Build was fun, making knots and mostly making the raft, but what was really fun is that we got to go in the water on our rafts! Joanna and Roza fell off, and the raft didn't even tip over!
What I learned -
I've learned many things like tying knots to hold a raft that we made together and I also learned to jump of rocks. I learned how to belay for High Ropes. I learned about plants and tree's, like this one tree that had leaf's that reminded me of lemon and lime!
What I'm grateful for -
I'm grateful that we got to go to camp and the I could afford it, since it was so expensive. I'm grateful that we had equipment to have fun, especially with Coasteering that they had wet-suits, they said it was $400 each! I was so happy that parents volunteered to come since we wouldn't have if they didn't. Steve, my friend, Cleo's dad, was really sweet and supportive! I hope he comes to one of our activities again.
Question: Do you think you would go to YMCA Wainui Camp? I recommend it!
